What Happened?:

Well, alot of things have happened since I last posted something on here and I also made small renovations to the site. What I am thinking of doing on here is by changing the looks depending on the time of the season, the site is still the Legends of the Silverdome but since it’s baseball season I went with a little bit of a Tiger theme to it.

The Draft:

My thoughts on the Draft, well it’s hard to say I mean the Draft is basically a crap-shoot and alot of people will not know just good it was until 3 years from now. As for Matt Stafford, man that is alot of money. He is, I believe, the highest paid QB in the NFL and hasn’t played a snap in the NFL. Not bad for someone who could be the backup for Caulpepper this Season. I was really hoping they would get Rey Maualuga with the 20th pick but decided for Pettigrew, then he slipped again into the Lions lap with the 33rd pick but passed him up again for Louis Delmas, then a few picks later he went to the Bengals. Hmmm……

Goodnight, Farewell:

Well the Cavaliers put away the Pistons in easy fashion which ended their run of 6 consecutive years reaching the Eastern Conference Finals. It was a heck of a run and even though they won 1 Championship and reached the Finals twice, but it feels like they should have had at least 2 more Finals apperances. Obviously, the Billups for Iverson deal didn’t work out for the Pistons but even if they have kept Billups, they still would not have beaten Cleveland had they met in the Conference Semis or maybe the Conference Finals. It will be an interesting offseason for the Pistons and come next year, the starting 5 will have a different look next year.

Not a Bad Start:

It was nice to see the Tigers have a good West coast trip last week, and now they start a homestand by playing the Yankees, (who they beat 4-2), then the struggling Indians, and finally the Twins. Verlander had a solid outing tonight, keeping the Yankees at bay with 7 solid innings and 9 strikeouts. I hope he can keep this up throughout the season but who knows. It also looks like the new batting stance for Inge has worked out because so far this season he is leading the team in 7 HR, 17 RBI , and he is looking like a Gold Glove candidate this year. So right as of right now the Tigers are in 1st place in the Division which is a far cry from a year when they were towards the bottom.

Just my random thoughts on the Tournament.

Midwest:

This bracket features overall #1 seed Louisville, a pretty solid #2 Michigan State, last years reigning Champion #3 Kansas, and PAC-10 Tournament Champion #10 USC. My major beef with this bracket is not that Arizona is in there, but with Big Ten Tournament runner-up, #8 Ohio State. See Ohio State is playing a virtual home games in Dayton, and that could work to their advantage when, and if, they meet up with Louisville in the 2nd round. Now the Cardinals won both the Big East regular and tournament, and they are definitely battle tested, but never underestimate the power of the home court advantage that Ohio State will have. For all of that, Louisville should get the Sweet Sixteen let alone to the Regional Final to play against Michigan State.

Midwest Upset Alert:

One of the potential major upsets that I can see in this region is probably North Dakota State upsetting Kansas in the First Round. While watching ESPN Selection Coverage, alot of the analysts were saying that Arizona could get by Utah in the #5 – #12 matchup but the way Arizona finished the season, I think the upset there will be Utah beating Arizona, (if that makes any sense).

West:

This region is pretty well stacked and there is a possibility of pretty great Sweet Sixteen game between, Memphis vs. Missouri in Glendale. Also, beware of a Second Round matchup that could pit Purdue and Washington, which I like Washington in that game. In the end however, I think the Regional Final will be another #1 vs #2 matchup between Connecticut and Memphis.

West Upset Alert:

I like 2 lower seeded teams to win in the First Round and they are; Utah State, and Maryland. The reason for Utah State is that Marquette is already feeling the effects of not having Dominic James in the lineup and also they will have a tough time stopping Utah State’s big man Gary Wilkinson.

Well, I haven’t wrote here in awhile so I thought this would be a good time to do an update. Sorry for the bad grammar in this post.

This has to be one of my times of the year, when the Conference Tournaments which leads to Selection Sunday, which leads into the NCAA Tournament.

Will This Game Ever End?:

Last night – this morning, I watched probably one of the most dumbfounding events that I have ever seen so far in my life, and that was the 6-OT game between Syracuse and Connecticut. I mean that game would have had probably the best finish so far in all of the Conference Tournaments had Eric Devendorf’s shot counted, but that was just the start of it. As I watched the game go into the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th OT I was hoping that the game would end because I wanted to go to bed because I had to get up at 6:30am. At the of the 5th OT, I really thought that this game would not end but luckily Syracuse blew the game wide open in the final OT to advance and I went to bed around 1:30am. I don’t think I will ever see another 6 OT game again. As I write this; 8:25pm, I don’t think Syracuse will have much left in the tank against West Virginia.

Other Things:

It will be interesting to see who goes where on Selection Sunday, and who the #1 Seeds will be. My guess for the #1 Seeds are; North Carolina, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Louisville. Also, I think Michigan will finally make the Tournament this year, I mean they did beat UCLA, Duke, and they finished .500 in the Big Ten. They also helped thier cause by beating Purdue, Minnesota, and winning their first round game in the Big Ten Tournament. I will just have to wait and see what happens on Sunday, and I will be back on Monday to make my predictions on the Tournament.

The Lions have hired Jim Schwartz as their new Head Coach. Usually, that kind of news would get me excited, but in the bad shape that the Lions are in I have little expectations for him to be a success in Detroit. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to know that the Lions are lacking talent in just about everywhere, especially the defense. That’s why in my opinion, that the Draft in April is big for the Lions I mean they have 2 of the top 19 picks in the 1st Round. They have to make each pick count, yet I have the feeling that they will draft a Quarterback with the 1st pick which would make absolutely no sense whatsoever. But, there is alot of time between now and the Draft. Good luck Coach Schwartz, you are going to need it.

#1 Pitt got beat by Louisville tonight, and #3 Wake Forest went into Clemson and beat the #9 Tigers which means that Wake Forest will probably be the new #1 team in College Basketball. It really looks like that the ACC could have 3 teams possibly in the top 4 or top 5 in the Country. Still in my opinion, I think the Big East is the better Conference this year based on depth but, the ACC is putting up a solid argument. Also, I can’t forget the Big Ten Conference which is having a pretty solid year as well.

Oh yes, my predictions for both Conference Championship games:
Eagles 24 – Cardinals 14, Ravens 10 – Steelers 6.

Between the Fiesta Bowl and the BCS Championship game, the Fiesta Bowl was by far the better game. It was a close game throughout and just when I thought Ohio State was going to pull it out, Texas sticks a dagger in their chest with a late TD. The BCS Championship Game didn’t do anything for me probably because Utah finished their season undefeated. I wish major College Football would implement some kind of playoff so teams like; Utah, USC, Texas, Florida, and Oklahoma would have a shot to face each other and settle it out on the field.

I can’t wait for ESPN to take over the BCS games because the coverage on FOX is absolutely horrible.

I was watching College Basketball on ESPN this afternoon, and they showed the upcoming Big East schedule on Big Monday and good grief, every game has ranked teams facing each other. In my opinion, the must-see game on Big Monday is on February, 16th when Pittsburgh plays Connecticut.

It wasn’t surprised that the Titans are 1-and-done in the NFL Playoffs. I didn’t see Kerry Collins leading them to the Super Bowl, let alone winning it. It will be interesting to see who the Ravens will play next Sunday in order to go to the Super Bowl.

Yikes, the Arizona Cardinals are 1 win away from the Super Bowl. Jake Delhomme absolutely just fell apart by throwing 5 interceptions and having a fumble early in the game. I thought Carolina could get to the Super Bowl on the strength of Williams and Stewart but when your Quarterback keeps throwing to the wrong team, there is no chance for them to have any impact on the game.

Here are My Thoughts:

The Lions go 0-16 and the owner promotes 2 people to higher and better positions because of it. That still defies any type of logic.

The Big East is just absolutely loaded in College Basketball. I have never seen a single conference have so many great – good teams in one season, and the schedule is just brutal. Case in point; on Monday, December 29th, Georgetown goes into Connecticut and puts a beat down on the #2 ranked Huskies. Then on Saturday, the #3 Pitt Panthers comes to D.C. and dominates the Hoyas. Then on Monday, January 5th, the Hoyas go to South Bend and plays the Irish. That’s just a gauntlet to go through in a week but, many the rest of the Big East teams have a similar schedule like the Hoyas. I can’t wait for the Big East Tournament to start in March because that will be very entertaining to watch.

Congratulations to the Utah Utes on finishing up the season as the only undefeated team in College Football. And your reward for that, is by watching two other 1 loss teams play for the National Title.

Big Ten Football is 10 laps behind the rest of the BCS conferences in College Football and doesn’t seem to be catching up. After watching USC run laps around Penn State, can anybody see Ohio State compete against Texas in the Fiesta Bowl?

How in the world is Matt Millen a guest on NBC’s playoff coverage. The rest of the panel shouldn’t give a freaking crap of what his opinions are. This guy was the architect of the 0-16 Detroit Lions, and also drafted Mike Williams.

The NFL Playoffs got off to a rousing start with both games averging a margin of victory of 6 points. The Arizona Cardinals beat the Atlanta Falcons behind a stellar game from Kurt Warner. I didn’t think they would beat the Falcons because of the way they entered the playoffs but thanks to home field and Kurt Warner, they move on. The San Diego Chargers went into overtime to take out the Indianapolis Colts and 3-time MVP Peyton Manning. San Diego is very lucky they have Darren Sproles because he literally carried the Chargers to victory despite his fumble in the 2nd half.

On that note, I want to personally thank the Chargers for doing a big favor to every football fan by killing the Manning Super Bowl.
