Good Lord I am Lazy:

Yeaaahhh… I have written on here since April.  Well alot has happened in the sports world since then and now.  But one thing is for certain, and that is, the Lions still suck.

It’s Been Awhile

What Happened?:

Well, alot of things have happened since I last posted something on here and I also made small renovations to the site.  What I am thinking of doing on here is by changing the looks depending on the time of the season, the site is still the Legends of the Silverdome but since it’s baseball season I went with a little bit of a Tiger theme to it.

The Draft:

My thoughts on the Draft, well it’s hard to say I mean the Draft is basically a crap-shoot and alot of people will not know just good it was until 3 years from now.  As for Matt Stafford, man that is alot of money.  He is, I believe, the highest paid QB in the NFL and hasn’t played a snap in the NFL.  Not bad for someone who could be the backup for Caulpepper this Season.  I was really hoping they would get Rey Maualuga with the 20th pick but decided for Pettigrew, then he slipped again into the Lions lap with the 33rd pick but passed him up again for Louis Delmas, then a few picks later he went to the Bengals. Hmmm……

Goodnight, Farewell:

Well the Cavaliers put away the Pistons in easy fashion which ended their run of 6 consecutive years reaching the Eastern Conference Finals.  It was a heck of a run and even though they won 1 Championship and reached the Finals twice, but it feels like they should have had at least 2 more Finals apperances.  Obviously, the Billups for Iverson deal didn’t work out for the Pistons but even if they have kept Billups, they still would not have beaten Cleveland had they met in the Conference Semis or maybe the Conference Finals.  It will be an interesting offseason for the Pistons and come next year, the starting 5 will have a different look next year.

Not a Bad Start:

It was nice to see the Tigers have a good West coast trip last week, and now they start a homestand by playing the Yankees, (who they beat 4-2), then the struggling Indians, and finally the Twins.  Verlander had a solid outing tonight, keeping the Yankees at bay with 7 solid innings and 9 strikeouts.  I hope he can keep this up throughout the season but who knows.  It also looks like the new batting stance for Inge has worked out because so far this season he is leading the team in 7 HR, 17 RBI , and he is looking like a Gold Glove candidate this year. So right as of right now the Tigers are in 1st place in the Division which is a far cry from a year when they were towards the bottom.

Tourney Time (Midwest and West):

Just my random thoughts on the Tournament.

Midwest:

This bracket features overall #1 seed Louisville, a pretty solid #2 Michigan State, last years reigning Champion #3 Kansas, and PAC-10 Tournament Champion #10 USC.  My major beef with this bracket is not that Arizona is in there, but with Big Ten Tournament runner-up, #8 Ohio State.  See Ohio State is playing a virtual home games in Dayton, and that could work to their advantage when, and if, they meet up with Louisville in the 2nd round.  Now the Cardinals won both the Big East regular and tournament, and they are definitely battle tested, but never underestimate the power of the home court advantage that Ohio State will have.  For all of that, Louisville should get the Sweet Sixteen let alone to the Regional Final to play against Michigan State.

Midwest Upset Alert:

One of the potential major upsets that I can see in this region is probably North Dakota State upsetting Kansas in the First Round.  While watching ESPN Selection Coverage, alot of the analysts were saying that Arizona could get by Utah in the #5 – #12 matchup but the way Arizona finished the season, I think the upset there will be Utah beating Arizona, (if that makes any sense).

West:

This region is pretty well stacked and there is a possibility of pretty great Sweet Sixteen game between, Memphis vs. Missouri in Glendale.  Also, beware of a Second Round matchup that could pit Purdue and Washington, which I like Washington in that game.  In the end however, I think the Regional Final will be another #1 vs #2 matchup between Connecticut and Memphis.

West Upset Alert:

I like 2 lower seeded teams to win in the First Round and they are; Utah State, and Maryland.  The reason for Utah State is that Marquette is already feeling the effects of not having Dominic James in the lineup and also they will have a tough time stopping Utah State’s big man Gary Wilkinson.

Checking In:

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Well, I haven’t wrote here in awhile so I thought this would be a good time to do an update.  Sorry for the bad grammar in this post.

This has to be one of my times of the year, when the Conference Tournaments which leads to Selection Sunday, which leads into the NCAA Tournament.

Will This Game Ever End?:

Last night – this morning, I watched probably one of the most dumbfounding events that I have ever seen so far in my life, and that was the 6-OT game between Syracuse and Connecticut.  I mean that game would have had probably the best finish so far in all of the Conference Tournaments had Eric Devendorf’s shot counted, but that was just the start of it.  As I watched the game go into the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th OT I was hoping that the game would end because I wanted to go to bed because I had to get up at 6:30am.  At the of the 5th OT, I really thought that this game would not end but luckily Syracuse blew the game wide open in the final OT to advance and I went to bed around 1:30am.  I don’t think I will ever see another 6 OT game again.  As I write this; 8:25pm, I don’t think Syracuse will have much left in the tank against West Virginia.

Other Things:

It will be interesting to see who goes where on Selection Sunday, and who the #1 Seeds will be.  My guess for the #1 Seeds are; North Carolina, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Louisville.  Also, I think Michigan will finally make the Tournament this year, I mean they did beat UCLA, Duke, and they finished .500 in the Big Ten.  They also helped thier cause by beating Purdue, Minnesota, and winning their first round game in the Big Ten Tournament.  I will just have to wait and see what happens on Sunday, and I will be back on Monday to make my predictions on the Tournament.
